Geneva-on-the-Lake council fast-tracks 1.50-mill streets levy for Nov. 3 ballot

The Geneva-on-the-Lake Village Council unanimously approved emergency measures July 27 to place RESOLUTION 2026-54, a five-year renewal of a 1.50-mill tax levy for village streets, roads and bridges, on the Nov. 3, 2026 general-election ballot. Council President P.J. Macchia moved for emergency consideration and to waive the three-reading rule; B.J. McMullan seconded the motions and roll-call votes were recorded as yes by Colby, McMullan, Dudeck, Long and Macchia.

The resolution, described in council records as "A RESOLUTION TO PROCEED REQUESTING SUBMISSION TO THE ELECTORS PURSUANT TO OHIO REVISED CODE §5705.19, .191, .194., .21, and .26 TO RENEW A 1.50 MILL TAX LEVY FOR THE VILLAGE OF GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE STREETS, ROADS AND BRIDGES," would fund street, road and bridge needs for the village for a five-year term if approved by voters. The council acted to waive standard reading requirements and to act on the resolution the same night; all votes on the emergency motion and the action on the resolution were recorded as unanimous.

Next steps: the levy will appear on the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot subject to the normal election process. The council did not record public comment on the levy during this meeting.
