Selectboard to require voter petition for most new social-service appropriation requests, per Dec. 10 policy

Selectboard members reiterated a policy adopted on Dec. 10, 2025 that new requests for social-service appropriations must go to voters via the petition process unless the Selectboard amends the policy to permit discretionary approval for insubstantial expenditures. The Jan. 3 budget hearing record identifies two new requests that will be subject to that policy: 302 Cares and Little Rivers Health Care.

Richard Wright of the Halls Lake Association presented a separate, previously approved appropriation request and asked for the same funding level as in 2025 to continue invasive-species control. Other nonprofits requested level funding but did not present at the hearing.
