Staff to audit city water rights and review ordinances for culinary water in new developments

Jonathan Jones told council he is compiling a water-rights summary and auditing dedications that residents and developers have provided to ensure all rights are recorded in the city’s portfolio.

"I'm looking at the water notices that are coming out with the state, and looking at our proofs due and our extensions, and new applications," Jones said, explaining the audit is intended to prevent inadvertent loss of rights and to flag any upcoming proof deadlines. He said staff has been working with Lori on the inventory and may coordinate with recorder Alicia on follow-up.

Jones also briefed the council on pending ordinances and impact-study needs to allow culinary-water servicing in planned subdivisions (he referenced East Hill Meadows as an example). He said impact studies and clear exaction rules will be necessary so that pipe sizing and supply impacts are understood before approving new development.
