Council considers using leftover Fire Station 63 funds to renovate aging Fire Station 61

Several council members urged the council to prioritize renovation work at Fire Station 61, noting unit living areas and bunk rooms need upgrades. City Manager Kimberly Greer said the city is closing out the Fire Station 63 construction project and that remaining contingency funds could be repurposed for 61 through a budget amendment: “You could formally allocate 63 leftover money into 61 starting the engineering and construction documents,” she said, and promised to bring a formal amendment to the council in August for the September meeting.

Council asked staff to specify the dollar amount remaining in the Fire Station 63 project so members could decide whether to move those funds in this fiscal year or include the project in the FY27 CIP. Greer said the construction contingency is the likely source and that staff will return with the precise figure and background documentation so council can formalize their support at an upcoming meeting.
