A 17‑year‑old Signal Hill resident urged the City Council to establish a Signal Hill Youth Student Council to give young people a structured opportunity to share perspectives with city leaders.
"By establishing a Signal Hill youth student council, the city can create a meaningful partnership between youth and local leaders," said Danisha Ralph, who told the council a youth council would help bridge communication gaps, develop leadership skills and ensure programs reflect youth perspectives. Mayor Tina L. Hansen thanked her and asked staff to collect her contact information so the item can return to the council for discussion.
Mayor Hansen later moved to bring the idea back for further exploration and Councilmember Jones seconded the motion. The council did not take a final vote on establishing the council but directed staff to place the item on a future agenda and to notify Ralph so she can speak again when the council considers the proposal.
