The Miami County study session on July 29 opened with a presentation from Thomas Toler of Information Systems requesting the Board postpone a decision on urgent IT infrastructure purchases for one week.
“Right now, we're requesting it's around $65,000,” Toler said, adding that vendor pricing has been volatile and that the county is working with decade-plus-old equipment — “the oldest equipment is from 1998… the newest piece of equipment is from 2012.” He asked the Board to table action until the next meeting so the purchase could be discussed in executive session and finalized after updated quotes arrive.
The Chair and commissioners had no substantive questions and agreed to the one-week delay. The Board did not take formal action on the request during the study session; Toler said staff expects to bring a final recommendation at the next meeting after updated pricing is secured.
If approved next week, the project will replace equipment that staff described as beyond typical life expectancy; Toler said a firm buy decision depends on final vendor quotes that continue to fluctuate.
