Lakeside residents urge board to deliver near‑term fixes as plan envisions 2045 changes

Dozens of residents from the Lakeside corridor used the comprehensive plan public hearing to press for near‑term, tangible improvements rather than only a 20‑year vision. Patrick Oxenham, a native‑plant advocate, said he “likes much of this plan” but urged the county to "show us what tomorrow looks like before asking us to believe what 20 years will look like," calling for pedestrian crossings, restored crossing guards and a county role in maintaining alleyways and neighborhood connections.

Local business owners raised concerns about proposed lane reductions and bikeway removals on Lakeside Avenue, warning that single‑lane conversions could create long backups and impede emergency vehicles and deliveries. Supervisors told residents they heard the concerns; the chair pledged to pull the Lakeside overlay from the adoption package and hold town halls and business forums to work through local design and maintenance issues.
