Board approves personnel report; staff says retention bonuses paid to resigning employees will be recovered

The board approved the consent agenda, including the personnel report, at the July 27 special work session.

Board member (S3) asked about a $1,500 retention payment that had gone to some employees who later resigned. Staff member (S4) said, “Mister Scruggs has already reached out to them and told them that they were gonna need to return the bonus” and that in “some situations [they] allow them to set up a payment schedule.”

Staff also clarified that the reading tutor who is leaving will likely remain in education elsewhere; staff characterized the repayment expectation as standard for retention payments that were contingent on continuing employment.

The personnel report passed on the consent agenda and staff said they will work directly with affected employees to recover funds or arrange repayment plans as needed.
