Commission sets rules for special election to fill District 5 Road Board seat

Henry County commissioners on Dec. 15 adopted Resolution 2-12-25 establishing rules and procedures to conduct a special election to fill the vacancy on the County Road Board for District 5. Commissioner Paul Neal moved the resolution and Commissioner James Higgins seconded; the motion carried by voice vote.

The resolution specifies that each qualified candidate, or a designated representative, may address the assembled commission for up to five minutes prior to balloting. The text also states a candidate must receive the votes of a minimum of eight commissioners to be elected; if no candidate receives eight votes on the first ballot, the commission will proceed to subsequent ballots with candidates receiving the fewest votes removed as described in the resolution. The resolution references Tennessee Code Annotated provisions governing the process.
