Judy Foster, a Venus resident, addressed the Commissioners Court during the public participation period on July 27 to request full resurfacing of County Road 501 (county portion) and Chestnut Drive.
Foster gave the court signed petitions and photos showing potholes, sunken edges and rough patches and said many nonresidents use County Road 501 as a shortcut to avoid a traffic signal at Highway 67. "Both roads really need to be resurfaced... County Road 501 has become dangerous for everyday driving," Foster said. The judge asked County Engineer Friedrich to collect Foster's contact information and review the submitted photos so staff can verify exact road segments and consider resurfacing during the October 1 maintenance budget planning process.
Foster said city and county crews previously filled holes but that temporary patches do not hold and that continued use by nonresidents has increased wear. The court cannot respond to public comment during the comment period but staff agreed to follow up with the petitioner to confirm details and next steps.
