Council rezones 138‑acre Weatherford Highway site to industrial for potential warehouse development

The City Council voted to rezone approximately 138.31 acres at 2861 Weatherford Highway from SF6 (single‑family) to Industrial District, clearing the way for potential warehouse or distribution development on property the applicant described as vacant and partially in a flood plain.

Planning staff told the council the future land‑use map is split between medium‑density residential and commercial; the commercial designation can accommodate industrial uses in mid‑block locations. The applicant, represented by Mr. Allen, said zoning the parcel for industrial use aligns with nearby Amazon‑related development and would preserve consistency in the area. “We’d like to rezone this property to Industrial and we think that’s given where we are today with Amazon coming in,” Mr. Allen said. The Planning & Zoning Commission had unanimously recommended approval; following the public hearing the council approved the rezoning on a voice vote.
