Cleburne adopts airport policy banning off‑airport transport of aviation fuel

The City Council voted to adopt an airport fueling policy that prohibits the sale or dispensing of aviation fuel into portable containers or into vehicles for transport and off‑airport use. Airport staff told the council the change is intended to clarify operational boundaries and mitigate risk while continuing normal on‑airport fueling for based and transient aircraft as well as emergency government operations.

An airport presentation listed known off‑airport uses such as off‑road/race vehicles, boats, lawn equipment, generators and aircraft not operating from Cleburne Municipal Airport; staff said nearby airports surveyed do not allow off‑airport fuel transport and the airport advisory board recommended the policy unanimously. Staff also told council they do not expect a meaningful revenue loss because off‑airport sales represented less than 3% of fuel sales. In presenting the policy, airport staff stated plainly that “this policy does not change aircraft fueling operations at the airport.” The council approved the policy by voice vote.
