Justin Knox promoted to merit captain after commission approves chief’s recommendation

Chief Alcorn recommended promoting Justin Knox to the position of merit captain after a retirement created a vacancy, and the Town of Brownsburg commission approved the appointment by voice vote.

“I choose to stick with number 1,” Chief Alcorn said when announcing his selection from the top three candidates identified by the merit process. A committee member moved to approve the promotion and the motion was seconded; the commission voted in favor.

The chief said the promoted candidate met the requirements of the merit law. The promotion fills an open captain position created by the recent retirement; Chief Alcorn told the commission that the candidate was present for questions and that the department’s merit rules allow the chief to select any of the top three ranked candidates.
