Council reviews proposals to replace Civic Center sign; staff cites $58,000–$70,000 estimates

Council and staff discussed replacing the Civic Center marquee with a larger, more visible display and the structural work required to support it. Samantha Denbow summarized vendor feedback and said the city had requests for two sizes: a larger 15‑foot option and a slightly smaller alternative. "The 70,000 is the larger estimate of the 2 signs they gave us," Samantha said; she added a $58,000 estimate had also been provided for a smaller sign option.

Staff noted the sign and its support structure must meet windstorm and hurricane ratings and that the upgrade would be paid from hotel-motel (tourism) dollars intended for advertising. Councilmembers said a larger sign would be useful once the aquatic center opens, enabling leveragable messaging for multiple civic projects.
