Council renews lease for 16.6‑acre well‑field land used by driving range operator

Council voted to reenter a lease for parcel ID L 32000200170004400—a 16.6‑acre portion of well‑field land on State Route 25 that has historically been leased in exchange for mowing and upkeep, described by staff as the back portion of a driving range.

City Manager Rob Schomer said the lease terms remain unchanged except for the inclusion of well‑field protection language under negotiation and that discussions with staff and EPA reports show the lessee has not used chemicals at the site in ways that raise compliance issues. "Checking with Ryan, checking with our reports to EPA, as far as usage of any chemicals, they don't," Schomer said, and staff recommended renewing the lease to maintain a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Council discussed roadside visibility where high weeds along nearby ditches were raised as a concern by a council member; staff said city crews do periodic mowing and that the intersection should be monitored. The lease renewal was moved, seconded and adopted.
