Bridgette Brennan sworn in as Larchmont mayor; board honors former mayor Sarah Bauer

Bridgette Teresa Brennan was sworn in as mayor of the Village of Larchmont at the board meeting, reciting an oath to ‘‘support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of New York’’ and to ‘‘faithfully discharge the duties of mayor of the village of Larchmont, New York to the best of my abilities.’’

Brennan thanked friends, family, trustees and village staff for their support and described public service as a personal calling rooted in her family’s experience. ‘‘For me it’s very personal… my community is what really helped me get ahead,’’ she said, adding she hoped to ‘‘help with the next chapter of Larchmont.’’

The board read a proclamation recognizing outgoing mayor Sarah Bauer for two terms and eight years of leadership, crediting her with zoning updates, major park renovations at Constitution Park, Turtle Park and Flint Park, and advocating for limits on gas-powered leaf blowers. ‘‘The village of Larchmont recognizes and celebrates Sarah Bauer for her service, leadership and lasting contribution to the village,’’ the proclamation said.

Bauer, who was asked to speak after the proclamation, called it ‘‘an honor to serve the village’’ and thanked trustees, staff and residents for the opportunity. ‘‘I have learned so much… I know that I’m leaving the village in phenomenal hands,’’ she said.

The board also noted proclamations sent by state lawmakers and presented gifts in appreciation of Bauer’s service. The mayor said staff and board members will follow up on the transition and incorporate community feedback as Mayor Brennan assumes duties.
