Commission approves 42‑day time extension for Shields Access Road project

The Redevelopment Commission approved Change Order 2 on the Shields Access Road and Block 5 detention basin project, extending the contract completion date by 42 days to August 27. Staff said the extension is strictly a schedule adjustment to account for weather delays and carries no increase in contract cost.

"Staff recommends that the Commission approve Change Order 2 for the Shields Access Road and Block 5 detention," a staff presenter said, describing recent curb and curve installations and noting that paving is planned next week if weather permits. A commissioner moved the change order and another seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.

The extension will allow the contractor to complete asphalt restoration, stabilize the roadbed, and finish tie‑in grading. Staff told commissioners that once pavement and finishing work are completed the town will release retainage and close the project. The motion and voice vote were recorded on the meeting record; the minutes should be consulted for an official roll call if required.

No additional funding was requested as part of the extension. The commission will receive future updates as the contractor completes paving and final site stabilization.
