Garden Commission to take on planters; summer landscape nominations under review

The Community Fund Commission discussed two nominations for the summer landscape contest and confirmed addresses that would be considered for awards. Eliza Diedrich reported the Garden Commission submitted two nominations (609 East Park and 238 East Kenilworth) and commissioners agreed to confirm whether the nominees won in the past five years before approving awards.

Separately, a commissioner proposed that the Garden Commission take responsibility for three large planters around downtown which have become overgrown; the Community Fund Commission discussed providing money for fall plantings so the planters look presentable for VillaFest. Staff liaison Brian Roche said he can explore logistics, and commissioners volunteered to coordinate planting and watering arrangements. "We were planting those in the spring every year and then it just kind of fell by the wayside," a commissioner said, proposing the Garden Commission take over maintenance.
