The Middletown Township Committee adopted Resolution 26-221 on first motion to appoint Timothy J. Cunningham as the township administrator and director of public safety, authorizing an employment agreement. The motion passed unanimously following brief remarks and a roll-call vote.
A committee member praised outgoing administrator Tony Mercantante at the meeting, saying, "after 40 plus years in municipal life, Tony Mercantante, our longtime township administrator, is gonna be retiring, a well deserved retirement," and called Mercantante an "incredible individual" as Cunningham was introduced. Officials said Cunningham is an attorney and former director of local government services with long experience at county and municipal levels.
The committee did not discuss substantive changes to administrative policy at the meeting; members said they will continue to provide transition support. The resolution text and any signed employment agreement will be available with meeting records and the clerk offered to provide copies on request.
