Board names Lynette Lowe county administrator after closed session

After meeting in closed session under the provisions of the Code of Virginia related to personnel, legal counsel and economic development, the Southampton County Board of Supervisors returned to open session and approved an employment agreement to hire Lynette Lowe as county administrator.

Staff read the certification resolution required by state law and the board then voted to approve the employment agreement by voice vote; the board recorded unanimous support during roll‑call certification. A supervisor moved and seconded the motion to approve the agreement; the motion carried.

The action followed a closed‑session discussion held under Code of Virginia §2.2‑3711 subsections concerning prospective candidates for appointment and consultation with legal counsel. The board did not discuss salary terms in open session beyond stating the board had authorized an employment agreement during the closed session certification process.
