Board accepts $800,000 grant and approves design work for Beachwood Manor water‑line replacement

Prince George County accepted an $800,000 federal grant and authorized staff to award a design contract to advance replacement of aging asbestos water pipeline in the Beachwood Manor neighborhood. Utilities staff told the board the appropriation assumed a construction estimate near $10 million and that the $800,000 grant includes an 80/20 split; the design proposal presented to the board was quoted at just under $300,000.

Board members asked about alternatives, including phased construction and options to improve existing wells or storage tanks instead of running roughly 7,500 linear feet of new main to River’s Edge; staff said feasibility work on existing wells would likely use utility funds rather than the grant. The motion to accept the grant and proceed with design authorization passed on roll call.
