Boerne council approves Kendall Appraisal District 2027 budget authorization

The Boerne City Council voted 4–0 on July 28 to adopt Resolution 2026-R-41 authorizing the city manager to approve the Kendall Appraisal District's proposed fiscal year 2027 appraisal and collections budgets. The resolution followed a presentation by staff and remarks introducing the appraisal district representatives.

Staff introduced Nelia Zapata (speaker 8) as the chief appraiser; she outlined the proposed budget, saying it represented a 3.8% increase over last year and calling out notable line-item variances: board and chief appraiser costs up about 30% (conferences and travel), bonds and insurance up about 42%, an approximately $45,000 engineering/design charge included in repairs and maintenance, and a planned vendor change in IT services. City staff noted the city's share of the combined appraisal and collections budget totals about $2,700,000 and that the city's allocation differs from last year's by roughly $4,500.

Councilmember Macaluso moved approval; the motion was seconded and passed 4–0. Staff reported that the city shares costs across multiple entities based on appraisal percentage and parcel counts.
