Planning commission defers Tradesport Hanover rezoning; local resident urges commissioner recusal

The Hanover County Planning Commission voted unanimously to defer REZ2025-00010 (Tradesport Hanover LAN LLC) to the commission’s Aug. 20, 2026 meeting and remove the case from the night’s public hearing.

During citizens’ time, Bob Nelson of the Ashland District told commissioners that Commissioner Parker had earlier emailed the applicant expressing support and that the written assurance amounted to a ‘‘major breach of public trust.’’ Nelson urged Parker to recuse himself from the Tradeport matter, saying the commissioner ‘‘prejudged’’ the application and therefore should not participate or vote.

Chairman Larry Ledbetter presided over the procedural motion to defer the case and the commission carried the motion without recorded opposition. No formal recusal of Commissioner Parker was recorded in the transcript before the deferral took place. The commission will revisit the Tradesport application at its Aug. 20, 2026 meeting, when any requests to recuse or other objections could be renewed or formally considered.
