Board backs West Point SmartScale application and approves several budget and program resolutions

At the July 27 meeting the board approved several resolutions and budget actions. Staff presented a draft resolution supporting West Point's SmartScale application to VDOT for a roughly $4.5 million project at the Route 30 and 33 intersection; the board approved the resolution noting there was no county match required at the time.

The board also accepted additional Compensation Board revenue (state increase from a budgeted 2% to an approved 3.5% raise) that eliminated anticipated use of fund balance for FY‑27, and accepted a roughly $10,000 additional state library allocation into the operating budget. The annual appropriation of split‑levy revenue to cover county‑paid school costs (software, radios, audit fees) was approved to meet the state code timing requirement. A tax‑refund resolution was approved for a qualifying exemption; details were described by the commissioner of revenue. The board also approved a resolution designating Visit West Point and King William as a Virginia destination marketing organization to pursue VTC grant opportunities and strategic tourism planning.
