Dr. Seggert presented the Moline-Coal Valley CUSD 40 district's draft goals for the 2026–27 school year, saying, "We are proud to present to you tonight our focus for this coming school year." The package pares previous goal sets down and pairs each priority with a visible title and monitoring plan intended to sharpen implementation.
The plan highlights several concentrated priorities. Staff described a phased approach to artificial intelligence: "we are going to begin to marry that with the work that our committee did this past year and get ready for a plan moving forward for the next phase for appropriate and safe use," Dr. Seggert said. Curriculum work includes a new K–8 English language arts adoption and pilots of standards‑based grading in elementary schools. The district also committed to raising graduation and secondary success back toward pre‑pandemic levels, expanding dual‑credit opportunities, and pursuing an honors diploma and diploma-plus-associate options.
Trustees pressed for concrete outcomes and timelines. One board member asked what should be expected "this year" versus later; Dr. Seggert acknowledged the need to refine statements and said the district will develop clearer fall implementation plans and monthly monitoring with an action tracker to make responsibilities and progress transparent. Trustees also recommended committee review to set measurable dipsticks for multi‑year goals such as the leadership pipeline and Ascend program targets.
The presentation folded community engagement and system upgrades into the goals. Staff previewed plans to migrate to the Infinite Campus student information system (see separate story) and to create a "portrait of family and community engagement" alongside the existing portrait of a graduate. The district also embedded the State Board of Education's Purple Star designation for military‑connected students in the goals.
The board will take the feedback and return a revised goals package with clearer outcome statements and timelines for board review and committee monitoring.
