Board directs staff to pursue easement to connect Well Number 2 to county water system

The Greene County Board of Supervisors voted to direct staff to negotiate easements with landowners to connect Well Number 2 to the county's water system, a step supervisors said is necessary to bring the well online.

Supervisor Hartung moved the directive after the board returned from a closed meeting where personnel, water and sewer, and real-estate matters had been discussed; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. Hartung said the goal was to "negotiate the appropriate [easement] with the appropriate landowners for an easement to connect Well Number 2 to the existing water system." The board's action authorizes staff to begin talks with owners and pursue the easements needed for construction and hookup.

County staff have reported that Well Number 2 has already been drilled and that the remaining work is to tie the well into the system. The board's direction follows water-project updates given earlier in the meeting that included other projects such as a raw waterline and a pump station construction.

The motion is a direction to staff rather than a budget appropriation; any costs or required easement purchases will be brought back to the board for specific authorization as needed. The item was announced as part of the meeting's return from closed session, and supervisors certified that only the matters identified in the closed-session motion had been discussed.
