Board accepts $43,000 Rescue Squad Assistance Fund grant for EMS equipment; match to come from carryover funds

The Greene County Board of Supervisors voted to accept a $43,000 Rescue Squad Assistance Fund grant to purchase two electric stair chairs and two power-load cots for Greene County Emergency Medical Services.

Terry (presenter) told the board the grant covers up to 50% of costs and that Greene County was granted the full request. The required $43,000 county match will come from three sources that Terry outlined: $17,000 from opioid direct-disbursement funds, $6,050.35 from a local assistance/travel consistency fund (LATCF), and $19,949.65 from contingency unless the board directs otherwise. Board discussion focused on timing and whether to use contingency or carryover; staff noted that using carryover funds is the cleanest option and that carryover presentation typically occurs in October with a public hearing for appropriation.

After discussion the board directed staff to use carryover funding and the board approved the resolution to accept the grant with the match included in the upcoming carryover packet. As presented, the grant will allow the county to equip ambulances with assisted-lifting devices that staff said reduce provider injuries and improve patient handling.

Terry described the equipment rationale, referencing studies that show powered loading and lifts reduce injuries to paramedics and improve safety and retention. The resolution was approved and staff will include the appropriation amount in the carryover agenda for formal appropriation as required.
