Committee confirms youth commissioners, notes $35,000 microgrant to Pathfinders

The Intergovernmental Relations Committee on July 24 voted unanimously to confirm youth commissioners representing vacant supervisory districts and received a report on the Milwaukee County Youth Commission’s recent activities. Vice Chair Vincent moved approval and the roll-call vote recorded five ayes, 0 nos; the motion prevailed.

Olivia Allen, a project management intern with the Office of Strategy, Budget and Performance, described the commission’s duties: “The purpose of the youth commission is to provide young people in Milwaukee County with a unique experience in community service, civic engagement, and policy and budget decision making.” Allen told the committee the commission drafts governing bylaws, reviews policy and budget proposals that affect youth, and allocates program funds; she cited a recent example in which “the youth commission unanimously approved a micro grant of $35,000 to Pathfinders.”

Staff and commissioners named current leaders and advisers, including adult advisers from the county and city, and noted several commissioners are completing their terms. The commission also plans to provide recommendations during the 2027 Milwaukee County budget process. The committee did not take separate action on the commission’s program items beyond confirming the commissioners.
