Youth Commission staff told the committee their recruitment push using social media, in-person postering and outreach at county libraries and events has substantially increased applications. “We've doubled the amount of applications we got since this time last year,” Olivia Allen said, describing Instagram reels, flyers and library outreach as key elements of the recruitment strategy.
Commissioners and staff reviewed recent outreach and participation in community events: several commissioners marched in the Pride parade and Juneteenth observances; the commission helped organize a microgrant press conference at Pathfinders and participated in Take a Child to Work Day. Staff also listed commissioners completing their service and said the opening ceremony for the 2026 program year will occur Sept. 23 at 5:30 p.m.; the event will include swearing in returning and new commissioners.
