Hays County honors long‑serving staff, proclaims pretrial, probation and parole supervision week

The Hays County Commissioners Court opened its July 28 session with awards and retiree recognitions and adopted a proclamation recognizing July 2026 as pretrial, probation and parole supervision week.

Albert Cieva, assistant director of the Judicial Service Department, told the court the department has operated for about three years and has reduced jail population and saved money through tools such as GPS and alcohol monitoring. "We've done things by way of monitoring defendants that would have been incarcerated," Cieva said, summarizing financial and public‑safety benefits. The court applauded employees from multiple departments who received service awards and those who are retiring after decades of service.

The proclamation was adopted by roll call. Commissioners thanked staff for their work and noted the pretrial services office’s evolution into a broad supervision and reentry support function. The court also took a group photograph with awardees after the presentation.
