Hays County health director: immunizations up sharply after mobile unit rollout; back‑to‑school fair set Aug. 1

Hays County Health Department Director Matthew Gonzalez reported substantial growth in local immunization outreach at the July 28 commissioners court. Gonzalez said the county received a mobile health unit in 2024 and added two full‑time staff for immunizations, boosting delivery: "For mobile clinics, we have done more than 44 events in fiscal year 25. And currently in fiscal year 26, we're at 33 mobile health unit events," he said.

Gonzalez told the court the health department’s efforts — school visits, mobile clinics and targeted outreach to elderly and school‑age populations — produced an average year‑over‑year uptake figure of about 134% (excluding an outlier month). He announced a free back‑to‑school health fair on August 1 at Goodnight Middle School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering immunizations, car‑seat checks and other family services. Commissioners thanked staff and noted past ARPA support that helped fund the mobile unit.
