Selectboard weighs five‑year tax exemption for Volunteer Fire Department, studies flood resiliency options

Article 8 asks whether properties of the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Department should be exempt from municipal taxes for five years. The Selectboard discussed capital costs tied to a possible new station and said the expense could require a bond of several million dollars.

Mark Higgins said the Selectboard is focusing on flood resiliency for the existing station after receiving a Preliminary Design Memo from Fitzgerald Environmental Associates (FEA) that outlines alternatives, including removing the pedestrian bridge and installing a wider‑span replacement to reduce flood risk. The Selectboard plans to investigate grant options and upstream watershed projects to mitigate flooding rather than immediately pursuing new construction.
