Board committee reviews handbook updates including seclusion, PBIS and AI guidance

A staff presenter summarized changes to the student code of conduct handbook for 2026–27, saying the format was converted from landscape to portrait, previous core values were replaced with the district's strategic‑plan priorities, and behavioral expectations and PBIS tiers were added.

"We added behavioral expectations and administration of medication policy," the presenter said, and confirmed that the seclusion and restraint policy approved last school year is now incorporated into the handbook. She also noted the addition of artificial-intelligence guidelines and that pages with PBIS tier descriptions and a revised discipline matrix were included.

Members asked procedural questions about which pages were changed and how the SBLC (school-building-level committee) will manage tier placement. The presenter said tier decisions are school-based and require SBLC documentation of tier‑1 and tier‑2 interventions. The committee voted to forward the handbook revisions to the full board for approval.

Board members requested staff provide marked copies or an index showing the amendments for quick reference at the full-board meeting.
