Committee reviews major updates to 2026–27 pupil-progression plan, including remote-learning changes

A district presenter walked committee members through the summary of changes to the 2026–27 pupil-progression plan, noting that the full 66‑page draft was available but a condensed summary was provided for the meeting. The updates include state-required language, additions specific to district policy, and new sections.

Key updates include: the addition of KITE numeracy testing for grades K–3 where state policy requires it; a new section on individual graduation planning (IGP) mandating an IGP by the end of 8th grade; revisions to the 9th‑grade transitional schedule and diploma pathways including future comprehensive exams in English and math for the freshman cohort; and a rebranding and expansion of the virtual learning academy into a remote learning academy with asynchronous, hybrid and live options.

The presenter emphasized the policy to tighten academic recovery and reassessment: students who earn an F on a major summative assessment must be offered reengagement and reassessment opportunities, and teachers must begin the reassessment process within five school days of notifying the student of the grade. Board members asked for examples of schools where reassessment procedures were successful and questioned implementation feasibility for teachers; the presenter said some schools saw positive results last year and that staff will continue to refine implementation and provide additional presentations.

The committee voted to recommend the pupil-progression plan to the full board.
