Katy ISD reports more than $10M distributed in teacher incentive allotment payments; district seeks wider TIA eligibility

Kyle Allen Sanchez, the district’s TIA coordinator, told the board that Katy ISD teachers have earned "over $10,000,000 in TIA funds" to date and that recent designation rounds increased the number of master teachers significantly. Sanchez said 887 teachers were designated in the latest round, with 243 recognized as master teachers, and that the district expects to submit further designations in the coming application cycle.

Trustees asked practical questions about which academic support teachers and intervention courses will be coded as eligible (presenters noted AST code O87 for eligible academic support teachers and said dyslexia teachers are coded O87 but that evaluation and growth measures need alignment). Sanchez explained the application process: multi-year work to create and validate student-growth measures, an annual April submission window to TEA and an administrative-retained 10% of allotment funding to support program operations. Trustees raised recruitment and equity considerations and were told National Board Certification remains an alternate pathway for teachers seeking immediate eligibility for allotment funding.
