Katy ISD board adopts discipline plan addition clarifying safe-transportation rules, including e-bike restrictions

Sherry Ashhorn, presenting the 2026–27 discipline management plan and student code of conduct, told trustees she added language related to safe transportation, clarifying which devices are permitted and which are prohibited on campus. Ashhorn noted the district worked with legal counsel on enforceable language. "It is recommended that be added to our safety guidelines and expectations," she said, calling the language a resource administrators can use consistently across campuses.

Trustees discussed details and communications. Trustee Fox praised the district for responding to community input and asked how the district would communicate specifics to families; district staff (Chief Bridal) said campuses will use regular communication channels and the district will distribute graphics that show examples of allowed e-bikes versus prohibited high-powered motor vehicles such as e-motorcycles. Trustee Shipley noted that campuses can add site-specific rules for problem areas and emphasized pedestrian safety; the board approved the updated code of conduct by voice vote (7–0).
