HRA approves new 250th date and extends parking hours for fireworks night

The Hull Redevelopment Authority voted unanimously to permit the 250 Committee to move the town’s 250th celebration to Aug. 14, 2026, with a rain date of Aug. 15, after smoke from Canadian wildfires forced the cancellation of the earlier date. Chair opened the item by explaining the only requested change was the date and invited a motion; Committee member moved the change and the board approved it without amendments.

At the same meeting board members also approved a request from parking vendors to extend paid parking until 10:00 p.m. on the fireworks night (the main date or rain date). The board clarified the extension applies to both lots used by vendors, and that residents displaying a sticker would remain exempt from charges. "It's unanimous," the Chair said after the vote.

Why it matters: The new date and extended hours align operations with vendor requests and bring clarity to permits and staffing needs for a high-attendance event. The decisions are procedural but affect logistics, policing and vendor revenue for the summer’s largest public gathering.
