Resident recounts lost property after repossession, asks city for DMV and towing help

During public comment, Rondell Johnson described losing nearly all his personal property when his truck was repossessed while he was unhoused and later broken into. He said he spoke with a towing company (identified as "Mark's Toy") and Westlake Financial but was told they did not have his belongings, including his mother's urn.

"My mother, she died 3 years ago of COVID, and she was cremated. I had her urn in my truck," Johnson said, asking the committee what residents should do to recover personal items and to get help resolving license, plates and handicap-decals problems that made parking by his apartment difficult.

Council members and the police chief offered immediate follow-up: the chief and Major Ronnie Armstead were said to have reached out to Johnson, and council members suggested staff reach out to the Henrico County authorities where the towing and the police report originated. Staff and council said they would try to help connect Johnson with assistance and legal resources and that the chief would follow up with the family.
