Norwalk commission welcomes Ken Hughes as new tree warden

The Norwalk Urban Forestry Commission on July 28 formally welcomed Ken Hughes as the commission’s new tree warden. Hughes said, “I’m the current, superintendent of parks and public property for the city of Milwaukee,” and described 18 years working in municipal parks and 15 years as a licensed arborist.

Commissioners gave brief introductions and the staff described how the urban forestry team will operate with the city arborist, deputy tree wardens, permitting handled by Paul Sotnick and a DPW road supervisor overseeing crews and storm response. Sarah, a city urban forestry staffer, told the group that the team will coordinate plantings, permitting and service requests and that Ken will be at the head of those efforts. Peter, chair of the commission, called Ken an “important component” of the Forestry Commission and urged close collaboration with other departments as projects move forward.
