Commission finalizes logistics for annual road race and seeks volunteers

Staff (speaker 4) briefed the commission on final preparations for the upcoming road race: start-of-day volunteer staging around 08:00, coordination with police/DPW/fire for road closures, and donated refreshments. The staff member said he will pick up water and fruit from a sponsor on Tuesday morning and that Dennis Pollard Market is expected to donate sandwiches.

“So if you're available on Saturday…we're asking…if anybody wants to help out at the school…if you're available, I will have fruit, bananas, and maybe a case of water,” the staff member said. The commission confirmed barricade plans, a staging trailer and that a single travel lane will be kept open during the event. Members asked volunteers to respond by the middle of next week so organizers can stagger deliveries and staffing.

Commissioners also reviewed registration figures (a few hundred preregistered; historically 400–600 participants pre-COVID) and contingency planning for heat or smoke.
