Commission recommends Select Board-ready study subcommittee if state clears YMCA partnership

Alongside the prevailing-wage request, the Recreation Commission approved a recommendation that the Select Board establish a study subcommittee to evaluate a possible partnership with the YMCA to build a community center. The proposed subcommittee would include two YMCA representatives, two Recreation Commission members, two town administrators and one interested resident.

Chair (speaker 1) read the recommendation and explained the subcommittee is conditional: commissioners want a formal state determination before the subcommittee begins work so that members do not spend time on a path that may be blocked by prevailing-wage rules. Several commissioners suggested language that would allow the subcommittee to be activated only if the state determines prevailing wage does not apply.

The commission also discussed committee roles, the need for clear scope to avoid advocacy conflicts, and the importance of including municipal administration and a Select Board liaison in any study panel.
