Trustees raise concerns about complaints process and possible retaliation; ask for policy clarity

Multiple trustees said they hear from parents and staff who fear retaliation and are uncertain where to bring complaints. One trustee described retaliation as a frequent concern, saying the perception is sometimes "bigger than school spirit," and urged the board to ensure policy and practice align so complaints flow through the proper channels.

Facilitators and administrators told trustees that clear board policies and a consistent chain of command reduce risk and protect staff. Administrators asked trustees to funnel individual complaints back to the superintendent or appropriate administrators so staff can address matters while preserving board neutrality. Trustees asked staff to locate and clarify existing complaint policies and to propose a communication plan so the public can find the correct procedures easily.
