County adopts several rezoning ordinances and tweaks joint zoning

Clay County commissioners handled a string of zoning matters through 2018. On April 24 the board adopted Ordinance #2018-01, rezoning Heglin Tract 1 (29715 469 Ave.) from Commercial to A-1 Agriculture to allow a single-family home (effective May 31, 2018). Later in the year the joint county-city zoning board advanced and adopted Ordinance #2018-03 (rezoning parcels in Vermillion Township to Rural Residential) after public hearings and the required readings.

The joint Clay County–City of Vermillion Board of Adjustment heard and ultimately granted a variance requested by Merritt Groh for a residence and residual acreage near East Main, concluding that the parcel’s groundwater and lot configuration constituted a limiting hardship. The boards required standard public hearings and documented findings before approval.
