Resident speakers urge support for police fundraiser and caution on removing fireworks restrictions

During public input the council heard from residents on two discrete topics: a police fundraising golf tournament and opinions about fireworks restrictions.

Pete Kaczewski (resident) said the Northlake Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association is organizing its inaugural Northlake Blue Line Golf Classic on Oct. 5 to support police department programs and solicited golfers and volunteers. "Right now, we have 36 golfers. We need a minimum of 72," Kaczewski said, asking for community help to meet that goal.

Joel McGregor, another resident, framed fireworks limits as an infringement on freedom and urged the council to be cautious about expanding restrictions. McGregor said he had seen communities abroad where fireworks were common and argued local residents should retain the ability to celebrate. His remarks reflected the broader resident sentiment referenced during the council’s fireworks discussion earlier in the meeting.

Both speakers were given time during the public-input portion and council thanked them for addressing the meeting.
