Residents urge action on human‑trafficking concerns; Feeding Vermillion reports rising use

At the Jan. 6 meeting visitor Robin Schiro of Elk Point (Union County) addressed the Commission under Visitors to be Heard, saying she has reported suspected human‑trafficking and drug activity and has been seeking help from Clay County for three years. "She said she has been asking the Clay County Commissioners for help for three years," the minutes record. Schiro also referenced former Union County Sheriff Dan Limoges, who she said helped her before he was killed; the Board did not take immediate action other than noting her concerns.

On March 3 Greg Merrigan presented the Annual Impact Report for Feeding Vermillion, noting Feeding Vermillion served 12,108 people in 2025 and that Clay County’s food‑insecurity rate was 13.7% in 2023. Merrigan described the consolidated programs operating through the Community Connection Center downtown and thanked the Board for its support.
