Commissioners set FY27 elected-official salaries after vehicle-allowance amendment; vote 4–1

Judge Parrish opened debate on the legally required yearly vote to set salaries for elected county and precinct officers and offered several amendments. "I offer amendment 1 which is a 2% adjustment for all, employees," Parrish said while proposing incremental increases to avoid large grievance-driven corrections.

Commissioner (speaker 3) pushed for higher employee pay and said, "My intent is to give the employees at least a 3.5 percent," and explained he would not support an elected-official pay raise this year because employees had not received the COLA he wanted. Several proposed amendments — including a 2% across-the-board increase and an amendment excluding commissioners from raises — failed for lack of a second.

Commissioner Corley offered a successful amendment to restore the published vehicle allowance for commissioners 1, 3 and 4 (restoring $4,800 in the published figures). After debate and clarification from the auditor’s office about what the published materials showed, the court voted to set elected-official salaries as amended. Judge Parrish called the question and the motion carried 4–1.

The vote followed guidance that this early statutory vote allows any affected official the ability to grieve their salary under state law; Parrish noted that the grievance process remained available. The court did not allocate specific COLA amounts for county employees as part of this action; funding and employee pay adjustments will be determined in the ongoing budget process.
