Resident reports grass 'died' at Veterans Park; staff blames disconnected sprinkler during sewer work

A resident told the council that lawns and vegetation around Veterans Park and nearby streets had turned brown and that neighbors reported headaches and sore throats after recent construction. "For the last week ... when I wake up in the morning, I got a headache. And right now, still, I have a sore throat," the resident said.

Public-works staff (speaker 3) told the council the problem was caused by a disconnected sprinkler system during sewer-line construction and that crews plan to restore the irrigation and apply fertilizer once construction permits. Staff said construction limited irrigation access and that the vegetation loss is expected to improve after the sprinkler system is reconnected and restoration work proceeds.

The council asked staff to inspect the area and coordinate restoration; residents requested the city check contractor practices and, if appropriate, seek compensation from the contractor for widespread damage to lawns.
