Committee member (Speaker 3) summarized a review of training options and cost estimates, saying the county's current internal training costs are about "$283,000" for personnel and equipment to train 24 firefighter ones and 12 EMS. He said Bridgerland offered a lower-cost alternative: "When we went down and and asked what would the cost be if Bridgerland provided the same number of trainings for both EMS and firefighter 1, it was about a 110,000 is what I had."
Staff member (Speaker 5), who participated in the Bridgerland meetings, said Bridgerland is capable of meeting the district's needs but with notable differences: "Their costs are substantially less, about 0.667 less as a matter of fact." He flagged trade-offs including different scheduling (evening classes versus longer daytime blocks), academic requirements tied to college credit, and the possibility Bridgerland would fill under-enrolled classes with outside students.
Board members noted retention risk if the district pays for training only for students to accept jobs elsewhere; one member said a multi-year commitment could be requested but enforceability would be limited. The board discussed holding a small training-related funding reserve (Speaker 9's model suggested 2.5% in one draft) and recommended the county and Hiram coordinate to propose concrete training budgets and schedules for decision at the next meeting.
