Board flags asset-transfer issues as county steps back from fire operations

Committee member (Speaker 3) and other board members discussed county-owned assets and the need to avoid buying duplicate equipment. Committee member (Speaker 3) said that it makes little sense to buy equipment the county already owns and urged the district to plan how county ambulances and trained staff will transfer into district control: "We have county fire equipment, particularly ambulances. And it makes no sense to buy something that we already have."

Board member (Speaker 9) stated the county is stepping back from fire operations and that assets would need to be deeded to the district, but cautioned transfers will be difficult unless the district can present an organized implementation plan: "So and moving forward, the county is now out of business with fire...That equipment would be deeded to the district...But if the county sees disorganization and don't know what we're doing, it's pretty hard to get the county to transfer those assets."

Members agreed that an implementation plan showing equipment inventories, personnel transfers and governance structure would be required to secure transfers and avoid unnecessary purchases.
