Council approves Kronbergs campground and I‑40 Drive‑in plan with safety, insurance conditions

Council granted a Special Use Permit for a proposed commercial campground (Kronbergs Campground) on property associated with the I-40 Drive-In after staff and the applicant addressed technical and flood-safety concerns.

The approval required that a Technical Review Committee (TRC)-approved site plan be in place before any construction begins, that campground users sign waivers to release the City and the owners from claims arising from use of the facilities, and that the City of Graham be named as additionally insured on general and flood insurance policies for the development. The developer and applicant presented a site plan with up to 61 pads (later presented as 61 vs. a requested 75 maximum to preserve flexibility during design) with water, sewer and electric service to sites and a bathhouse structure.

Why it matters: Council conditioned approval on TRC review to ensure flood-proofing and design compliance. The property is partially located in the 100-year flood plain, so members directed that design and insurance protections be demonstrated before construction activity begins.
